NVIDIA Settles Next-Gen GeForce Naming Confusion: It's GTX 2080 (or RTX 2080?)

Adica e clar ca va fi 2080/2070, nu 1180/1170. Mai ramane de rezolvat partea cu RTX si GTX, care probabil va fi cum s-a mai discutat, respectiv RTX 2080/2070 si GTX pentru 2060 si mai jos. ;D

Aia cu Nvidia RTX 2080 is equivalent of Titan V  e o mare frectie. Nu cred ca se pot compara.

E foarte posibil. Titan V nu e placa pentru gaming si ca urmare nucleele Tensor nu sunt folosite in accelerarea diferitelor calcule necesare in gaming. E mai puternica decat placile Pascal pentru gaming doar datorita fortei brute asigurata de numarul mai mare de nuclee non-Tensor din arhitectura.
La placile cu Turing, nucleele Tensor sunt din start folosite pentru accelerarea diferitelor calcule pentru gaming. Pana acum, in exemplele date (doar leak, inca neconfirmate), arhitectura Turing cu nuclee Tensor pentru gaming lasa in urma rau de tor arhitecturile anterioare.
Pentru Ray Tracing, arhitectura Turing are in plus alte nuclee dedicate... Deci Arhitectura Turing are in plus fata de Pascal atat nuclee speciale pentru accelerarea RT cat si nuclee Tensor pentru accelerare hardware la tot felul de calcule care sunt utilizate pentru gaming.
Deci teoretic pare ca se poate ca RTX 2080 sa ofere performanta in gaming la nivel de Titan V, desi specificatiile brute nu sugereaza ca ar fi posibil. ;D

la nivel de sm turing si volta sunt la fel, ambele au nuclee separate de fp32 si integer. Iar acele integer 4 si 8 de de la nivel de tensor core sunt folosite doar in RT pt denoising.
Aparent, calculele pt RT tot la nivel de SM sunt efectuate:
The RT core essentially adds a dedicated pipeline (ASIC) to the SM to calculate the ray and triangle intersection. It can access the BVH and configure some L0 buffers to reduce the delay of BVH and triangle data access. The request is made by SM. The instruction is issued, and the result is returned to the SM's local register.

Aparent Turing e un Volta cu aceste instructiuni (RT) in plus, cu Tensors upgradat (mai rapid in int 4 si int 8, in fp16 sunt la fel) dar cu SM in minus (atat FP32 cat si FP64)  si sigur alta memorie. Pana si la nivel de cache par la fel.

Man, Daca in arhitectura Volta nucleele Tensor sunt folosite diferit fata de cele din Turing, restul e mai putin relevant. In arhitectura Turing, Nvidia intentioneaza integrarea retelelor neuronale in procesarea de imagine, iar asta o face folosind Tensor Cores.
In plus e modificata si imbunatatita si structura SM, totul e radical schimbat fata de Pascal si imbunatatit fata de Volta.

Fata de Pascal sigur, cam totul e schimbat.. Dar si tensors din Volta sunt folosite pt rt (Volta si Turing sunt singurele cu suport pentru DXR). Se poate si pe Pascal dar in mod software.

RT in software se poate si cu placi/arhitecturi mai vechi, nu asta e problema.
Cresterea de performanta relativ la RT oferita de Turing vs Pascal e de pana la 25x.
Cresterea de performanta relativ la RT oferita de Turing vs Volta e de 3-5x.

Deci e mai mult decat semnificativa si fata de Volta.

E si f mult marketing in cifrele alea. De ex in demo-ul cu StarWars ziceau ceva de 6x Pascal.. Si da, e diferenta si fata de Volta dar asta vine din cauza acelor "nuclee RT", care nu-s tocmai nuclee. Prin alt loc ziceau ca unde a fost nevoie de 4 Titan V, acum e nevoie doar de una bucata Quadro. Si aici un pic de vrajeala:

Our PICA PICA demo runs great on a single GPU as well. NV was nice to provide a DGX for showfloor demo and presentation. Can't say no to that ;)
